Building Drawing Plans

Things to consider when planning an extension by Dipika Patel
Are you thinking of adding an extension on to your home? Doing so can be a great way of gaining some extra space without having to move house – and can also boost your property’s value. However, there are lots of things to consider prior to going ahead.
The first thing to be aware of is that you may need to obtain planning permission. Speaking to your local council will quickly inform you as to whether this is the case, but you will find this depends on the dimensions and nature of the extension you intend to build.
So, in order to correctly assess if you will need planning permission, you must decide what kind of extension you would like to build – and what size this will be.
For example, if your family is expanding, you might be keen to add a few extra bedrooms on to your home. Or, perhaps you have been dreaming of a larger kitchen and have decided that, rather than moving properties, an extension will be able to give you what you need.
No matter what you intend to use your extension for, you will need to ascertain how large it will be. As a general rule, extensions with roofs that exceed the height of the tallest part of your existing roof will need planning permission – but there are other factors that will contribute to this decision too.
Of course, loft conversions are another option – and this is a great way to transform disused space into a room that can really enhance your home. Get loft conversion quotes to see if this is feasible in your house, and, if so, how much it will cost.
Once you have decided just what you are looking for, you can start getting into the finer details of planning. While you might be tempting to carry out some – or all – of the work yourself, it is well worth calling in the professionals to ensure a thorough, safe job is done.
Indeed, extensions are complex projects that require an array of expertise, and it is likely you will need a number of workmen from different professions to complete the project.
For example, you will need builders and bricklayers to help you with things like retaining walls, which can be essential to the safety and longevity of your extension, while heating engineers will be required to make sure your brand new space is as comfortable as possible.
In addition to ensuring the work is carried out to the highest possible standard, such professionals can also provide invaluable advice to help everything go smoothly – both things that can save you money in the long run.
After all, if you try to carry out the work yourself, you may find any mistakes you make are costly to repair – or even cause damage to the rest of your home.
Meanwhile, experts such as local roofers can help you to ensure your extension is consistent with the rest of your property. Using similar materials to your current roof for your extension’s roof, for example, will make sure this latest addition does not look out of place.
As there are so many things to consider, it is vital you take the time to create an accurate budget. First things first, ascertain exactly the total amount you are willing to spend on the project. This should include emergency funds that can be dipped into should anything go wrong.
Think about whether you will incur any costs applying for planning permission, as well as how much building materials – in addition to the process of Construction – will cost.
With so much going on in terms of building, it is easy for decorating and furnishing to slip from your mind. So, when drawing up your budget, make sure you set aside funds for this from the outset. Consider any paints or wallpaper you might like to use, and any fittings, special lighting, flooring and furnishings you would like to decorate with.
As you can see, there is plenty to take into an account when planning an extension, and to make sure it fits within your budget it is a good idea to obtain as many quotes as possible.
You can do this quickly and simply by searching online and using a service to advertise the work you want doing and that allows workmen to come to you with quotes directly. Services that offer you the chance to see how fellow consumers have rated their expertise on previous jobs are also invaluable, as they give you an insight into how well your chosen professionals can complete the work.
By taking the time to plan carefully, you can create the extension of your dreams.

Drawing Stars & Building Polyhedra $14.42 Using this book, students learn to draw stars with seven, eight, or more points, and formulate conjectures about their mathematical structure. They also assemble polygons into 3-D polyhedra and develop spatial intuition. Drawing Stars: Students develop a definition of "star" and find a procedure for drawing stars with seven, eight, nine, or more points. They also use stars to illustrate multiplication: for example, 2 x 4 = 8 describes two overlapping squares that form an 8-pointed star. Students discern mathematical properties of stars. They distinguish continuous stars (which can be drawn without lifting pencil from paper) from stars that consist of overlapping copies of simpler stars. Students formulate a conjecture that uses the Greatest Common Factor to predict whether a particular star will be continuous or overlapping. Building Polyhedra: Students assemble equilateral triangles, squares, pentagons, hexagons, octagons, and decagons to form symmetrical 3-D solids called "polyhedra." This book allows students to experiment for themselves: Some combinations don’t work, but students enjoy discovering the combinations that do fit together. Students develop spatial intuition that applies to the structure of molecules, to playground climbing equipment, and to geodesic domes. The book provides reproducible handouts of polygons to photocopy onto colored paper. Students cut out the polygons, fold the flaps, and attach them with small staplers. Completed polyhedra make an attractive wall display. These activities meet four distinct NCTM standards. |
