Detached garage conversion?
Ok, here’s the issue.
The house my girlfriend is currently renting a room at has already had a loft conversion, meaning that the house has gone from having 3 bedrooms to 5. I’m not aware that there were any issues with regards to planning permission but it was done some time ago apparently. Now the live-in landlord is converting a detached double garage into another bedroom so that his brother can stay. So I’ve 2 questions:
1. would this be against planning/building regulations and
2. are there limits on how many people can share an accomodation before the facilities have to be upgraded?
If you can answer either of those I’d be really grateful!
The building must meet a minimum standard. It must comply and the conversion does require Planning And Building Regulations permission.
With regard to upgrading speak to social services they will tell you what the minimum expected standard is for the number of occupants.
What about fire regulations? are stair wells protected? but that’s another issue
